Key Takeaways
  • Pylontech began mass production of the LFP cells at its Hefei plant

  • The 601 Ah cell has a reported energy density of 425.8 Wh/L, energy efficiency of 96.5% and cycle life of more than 12,000 cycles

  • The cells are being integrated into Pylontech’s PyOcean 6.25 MWh and 8 MWh storage systems

Chinese battery energy solutions provider Pylontech has started mass production of 588 Ah and 601 Ah prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells at its Hefei plant. The company says it has already produced more than 100 MWh of the new cells.

According to Pylontech, the 601 Ah cell has an energy density of 425.8 Wh/L, energy efficiency of 96.5% and a cycle life of more than 12,000 cycles. The company says the higher capacity reduces the number of cells and electrical connections needed in a storage system, allowing a more compact design.

Pylontech is integrating the cells into its PyOcean 6.25 MWh and 8 MWh energy storage systems, which are set to enter project delivery. It has previously supplied systems for a 120 MW/240 MWh project in Jiangsu and a 200 MW/400 MWh standalone battery project in Ningxia.

At the Hefei plant, Pylontech says its core cell production processes are fully automated. The plant uses more than 120 industrial robots and 180 sets of intelligent manufacturing equipment. A manufacturing execution system records production and quality data, allowing each cell to be traced through the manufacturing process.
