Chinese heterojunction (HJT) solar cell and module producer Huasun Energy has launched new semi-transparent solar modules especially for the growing agrivoltaics segment in Europe. It has developed these in collaboration with French energy solutions provider Feedgy that estimates the global agrivoltaics market to grow to €8.6 billion by 2031, up from €3.3 billion in 2021.
An October 2023 report by the EU's JRC said the bloc can exceed its 720 GW DC solar generation target for 2030 using only 1% of farmland to accommodate solar projects (see Agrivoltaics Can Help Exceed Targets Under EU Solar Strategy).
The 2 partners call it the 1st HJT semi-transparent module tailored for agriculture. It was unveiled at the EnerGaïa trade show in Montpellier, France recently.
Huasun has used its 96 pieces of HJT cells for these modules that have a power range of 300 W to 320 W. They have secured TÜV Rheinland certification for these panels.
The duo claims the HS-B96 AgriPV HJT modules to have over 90% bifaciality with a temperature coefficient of -0.24% to ensure stable power output even in high-temperature environments.
The modules have 39% transparency and a 33% photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) transmission rate, compared with traditional PV modules for greenhouses. These can provide effective sunlight exposure while safeguarding plants and crops, they add.
"As HS-B96 AgriPV HJT semi-transparent module gains widespread adoption, Huasun's state-of-the-art HJT products will extend beyond ground and roof solar installations to agricultural scenarios such as farms and greenhouses," says Huasun.
Huasun, along with German agrivoltaics pioneer Next2Sun, spoke about the various HJT Solar Application Trends in Europe during TaiyangNews Special Focus Webinar in January 2024 (see TaiyangNews Webinar On HJT Solar Application Trends In Europe).
