Key Takeaways
  • Sigenergy has officially launched its SigenCube C&I battery energy storage system

  • The BESS offers an energy density of over 220 kWh/m², with a claimed footprint reduction of more than 30% compared to conventional solutions

  • SigenCube supports 150% peak power overload for 10 seconds, noise levels below 60 dB, and grid-forming operation

Chinese energy storage manufacturer Sigenergy has officially launched its SigenCube commercial and industrial (C&I) battery energy storage system (BESS) ahead of All-Energy Australia 2026 in Melbourne. The new system targets installations where space is limited, noise needs to be controlled, and power demand can vary significantly.

One of the main features highlighted by the company is space efficiency. SigenCube offers an installation-area energy density of over 220 kWh/m². Sigenergy says a 4 MWh project would occupy 54.5 m², compared with more than 80 m² for conventional systems. The cabinet houses the power conversion system (PCS), high-voltage components, and distribution units. It also has a built-in energy management system (EMS). Up to 100 cabinets can operate in parallel without external data loggers.

Sigenergy says it has also focused on reducing operating noise and handling sudden changes in power demand. SigenCube produces less than 60 dB of noise at a distance of 1 m. For industrial loads, it can deliver 150% of its rated power for 10 seconds, helping equipment such as compressors and pumps manage short periods of high demand. Cooling is managed using real-time cell data and expected load conditions. The company says this approach can reduce auxiliary power consumption by up to 20%.

On the safety side, each battery pack has 40 temperature sensors monitoring 64 cells. Sigenergy also specifies a 10-year coolant service life. A 7 A pack-level active balancing function is designed to maintain battery balance and reduce the need for on-site maintenance.

The system's grid-forming functions include black start, fault ride-through, virtual inertia, and reactive power control. The company claims that SigenCube can maintain power to connected loads during grid switching without interruption, with a stated switching time of 0 ms. It can also handle 100% three-phase load imbalance, which is relevant for facilities with uneven loads or weak grid connections.

For installation, the company says the units are pre-commissioned at the factory. Basic configuration and diagnostics can be completed through an app in 3 to 5 minutes on site. Earlier, at Intersolar Europe 2026, Sigenergy showcased its integrated solar, storage, EV charging, and heat pump solutions (see Sigenergy’s ESS Unifies Heat Pump & EV Charger).
