Solex Introduces Prototype BC Module; Shares Expansion Plan At REI 2025

At the Renewable Energy India Expo 2025 (REI 2025), Brijesh Khanna, President - Operations of Solex Energy Limited, spoke with the TaiyangNews team about the company’s manufacturing expansion plans and technology roadmap that includes back contact (BC) technology and product development.  

Introducing the ‘prototype’ product, which has cells with no front grid lines across the length and offers an aesthetically pleasing appearance, Khanna calls it ‘TaPi - RC’ or TaPi rear contact module. Equipped with 132 half-cut BC cells, this glass-glass module offers a power output range of 635 W to 665 W and an efficiency of up to 24.6%. Each cell’s rear side features an 18BB metallization layout, alternating positive and negative poles; however, the cell dimensions were not disclosed. Khanna states that the company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with ISC Konstanz, a German cell technology research institute, for the transfer of ZEBRAplus, a BC cell technology based on TOPCon, during the event. This module, scheduled for commercial production by the 2nd half of 2026, will carry a product and performance warranty of up to 12 and 30 years, respectively. According to Khanna, it will be applicable for India’s independent power producers (IPPs) and solar developer projects.  

In terms of manufacturing capacity expansion plans, Solex, with a current 4 GW of annual PV module production capacity, aims to reach up to 10 GW by 2030. It is also targeting 10 GW of annual PV cell fabrication capability in the same timeline. In addition, it will expand into ingot and wafer manufacturing simultaneously. According to Khanna, the company envisages up to $ 1.5 billion for its 2030 vision. In terms of employment generation, Solex currently employs around 1,700 people, with approximately 70% recruited locally, from Surat, Gujarat.
