Key Takeaways
  • Sungrow will unveil its latest C&I Energy Storage System (ESS) PowerStack 255CS at Intersolar Europe 2025

  • It will also showcase its brand-new scalable 1+X 2.0 modular inverter for utility-scale applications

  • Beyond core energy storage products, the company will debut its augmented reality (AR) tool along with 2 energy management software tools

In the ever-increasingly competitive energy storage market, global PV + energy storage systems (ESS) makers are betting on ongoing technological advancements and the digitalization of ESS across diverse application scenarios.

At the upcoming Intersolar Europe 2025 expo, leading PV inverter and ESS solutions provider Sungrow is set to showcase both its latest innovations and commercially available ESS solutions, along with smart digitalization tools for the European market. Covering a wide range of mainstream PV + ESS applications, such as residential, commercial & industrial (C&I), and utility, the highlights of the company’s booth will be the 5 MWh PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled ESS (utility), 1+X 2.0 Modular Inverter (utility), and PowerStack 255CS (C&I). Additionally, Sungrow will present its suite of smart digital tools, such as iHomeManager, iSolarCloud, and an augmented reality (AR) platform for virtual visualization.

Utility Application: PowerTitan 2.0 Liquid-Cooled ESS

Sungrow’s commercially available PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled ESS is designed for utility-scale applications. It features 3.2 V, 314 Ah battery cells configured in 416S12P, delivering up to 5.015 MWh of storage capacity. The system features multiple 210 kVA PCS units and supports up to a 2-hour backup with 12 units or a 4-hour backup with 6 units.

Unlike traditional setups that separate DC battery systems and AC PCS, PowerTitan 2.0’s AC block design integrates MW-scale batteries and PCS within a standard 20-ft container, offering multiple advantages. This close integration is said to boost round-trip efficiency (RTE) by 2% by minimizing conversion losses, resulting in an 8% increase in lifecycle discharge volume and a 92% reduction in fault-related losses. Collectively, these enhancements contribute to a 20-year system performance life with improved charge/discharge efficiency.

To address thermal challenges in compact systems, PowerTitan 2.0 uses fully liquid-cooled battery packs and PCS units, ensuring effective heat dissipation and extended system lifespan.

Operational Functionality & Grid Support

PowerTitan 2.0 incorporates Stem Cell Grid Tech, which enhances grid stability through continuous high- and low-voltage ride-through. It also supports advanced grid services, including flexible inertia support for grid stabilization, multi-level broadband oscillation suppression, µs-level voltage reconstruction, and GW-level black start capability.

To mitigate the risk of thermal runaway, embedded AI technology continuously monitors cell conditions in real time, enabling early detection and warnings. Electrical hazards such as short circuits and arc formation are addressed through 4 layers of internal electrical protection. Additionally, a dedicated 2-hour fire protection system safeguards individual components.

Utility application: 1+X 2.0 Modular Inverter

At the exhibition, Sungrow will unveil its latest 1+X 2.0 modular inverter for utility-scale applications. The advanced capabilities of this new scalable solution can be categorized into 4 key metrics: Scalability, Durability, Protection, and Grid Adaptability.

The 1+X 2.0 Modular Inverter offers 0.8 MW per module, scalable to 9.6 MW with 12 units in parallel, providing enhanced modularity over its predecessor. Each module features a split design that isolates key components like IGBTs and capacitors for fast, on-site replacement. This reduces downtime and limits generation loss, with Sungrow claiming O&M time as low as 1 hour per module. AI-powered diagnostics further streamline maintenance by enabling real-time fault detection, eliminating manual inspections.

To ensure reliable operation without derating – even in extreme temperatures up to 52°C – the inverter integrates high-power-density semiconductors, a high-efficiency heat exchanger, and a dual-cycle thermal management system. Its IP66-rated enclosure, advanced heat dissipation, and self-cleaning air duct protect against dust and heat.

On the safety front, its AI-driven DC-side safety system mitigates fire risks from faults like short circuits, arc faults, and terminal overheating. A dual arc protection mechanism disconnects the fault within 40 ms via the combiner box, while inverter cluster control ensures other boxes shut down simultaneously to prevent spread. A high-precision temperature monitoring system also detects terminal overheating early for timely intervention.

Furthermore, regarding the adaptability with the grid, the 1+X 2.0 supports both DC- and AC-coupled PV + storage systems, with DC coupling offering greater efficiency and cost savings. Its advanced grid-forming technology enables inertia-like support in under 5 ms during grid fluctuations and tolerates transient overvoltages up to 1.8 × nominal, maintaining system stability.

C&I Application - PowerStack 255CS

Addressing the needs of European C&I consumers, Sungrow’s PowerStack 255CS, equipped with 314 Ah battery cells, offers up to 257 kWh of storage for 2-hour applications and 514 kWh for 4-hour use. Like the PowerTitan 2.0, its integrated AC block design boosts the system’s round-trip efficiency (RTE) to over 90%, enhances charge/discharge efficiency, and supports a product lifespan of up to 20 years.

In terms of protection, this UL9540- and NFPA 855/69/68/14-certified energy storage solution includes a range of safety features, such as thermal runaway prevention through advanced cell anomaly detection, multi-stage overcurrent protection, and a multi-layer early-stage fire detection system.

Additionally, its comprehensive safety design incorporates fuse protection at the cabinet, rack, and pack levels, providing robust fire prevention and enhanced operational security.

Designed to meet the operational needs of C&I customers, this solution supports various applications – including standalone energy storage, PV + storage integration, EV charging + storage, and microgrid systems – ensuring both grid stability and maximum profitability.

Digitalization

In addition to its ESS offerings, Sungrow will highlight its smart energy management software tools: iHomeManager and iSolarCloud. The company says iHomeManager intelligently controls captive consumption and centralizes home energy management. Also, the iSolarCloud, equipped with dynamic tariff control capabilities, optimizes power usage and electricity costs when integrated with an existing energy management system.

Others

Beyond its core energy storage products, Sungrow will also showcase a broad range of microinverters, ranging from 450 W to 1,600 W, designed to meet the demands of the European residential market.

Additionally, the company is set to unveil its first augmented reality (AR) tool, enabling virtual visualization of various products for an enhanced customer experience.

Shawn Shi, President of Sungrow Europe, quoted, “Intersolar is for us one of the best opportunities to connect with the industry, and I am looking forward to many fruitful discussions. The renewables sector is moving fast, and our solutions and services are paving the way to this dynamic business environment. We are actively contributing to the energy transition in Europe and beyond, to realize, along with our esteemed partners, our mission, Clean power for all.”
