Key Takeaways
  • Sungrow has launched its MGXRL series hybrid inverter for residential-scale applications

  • The company also unveiled its MGL060 battery, featuring 314 Ah battery cells

  • The MG5/6RL inverters are commercially available currently, while the MG8/10RL inverters and MGL060 battery will be available in Q4 2025

After showcasing its latest energy storage solution (ESS) and inverter lineup at SNEC 2025 and Intersolar Europe 2025, Sungrow recently unveiled a new residential ESS product during the Southeast Asia Distribution Summit. According to the company, this product is an upgraded version of its MG series inverters. It consists of the MGXRL series hybrid inverter, where the prefix ‘X’ indicates kW output capacity, and the MGL060 battery.

Hybrid Inverter

As the technical datasheet is unavailable, we infer the product’s specifications from the company’s press release. This inverter series has 4 different power classes - 5, 6, 8, and 10 kW. The company provided a brief overview of the MG6RL inverter.

While the exact number of MPPT channels is not provided, each channel has a maximum DC input capacity of 20 A. This inverter’s rated nominal output power is 6 kW AC. Designed to handle up to 200% DC/AC oversizing, it can deliver a maximum of 160% output capacity. Paired with a 12 kW DC PV array, it can cater to a 6 kW residential AC load, while the remaining 3.6 kW power can charge the integrated battery bank, explained Sungrow. It automatically switches to off-grid or backup mode in less than 4 ms in case of a grid outage. During blackout events, it can feed up to 200% of output capacity for 10 seconds. For output power upscaling, a maximum of 8 inverters can be connected in parallel, according to the company.

On the operation front, it can maintain full output without derating for up to 45°C ambient temperature. In addition, it has an operational noise level of 35 dB.

Battery Module

The MGL060 battery module is equipped with 314 Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells. Each cell has a lifespan of up to 8,000 charging/discharging cycles with 60% end-of-life (EOL) capacity. The company didn’t disclose its storage capacity or the maximum number of battery modules connected.

According to Sungrow, the MG5/6RL inverters are commercially available. The MG8/10RL models and MGL060 battery will become available in Q4 2025.
