  • Sungrow offers two types of floats—one with steel rods for better heat dissipation and a pure float structure for challenging weather and acidic water conditions

  • The floats can adapt to a wide range of solar modules available in the market, accommodating different sizes and types

  • Sungrow provides a 5-year warranty for the complete system, including structure, mooring, and anchoring, ensuring long-term reliability and performance.

Sungrow offers 2 types of floats – one with steel rods, and the other pure floats. The design of the former ensures minimal float material coverage at the back of the modules, enhancing heat dissipation and subsequently reducing operating temperature to augment electricity generation. The latter, the pure float structure, is apt for projects with challenging weather conditions or acidic waters, given its anti corrosion advantage. These floats comply with the BS6920 standard, ensuring the compatibility of the materials used, especially in drinking water bodies.

According to Sungrow FPV’s Country Manager Julia Wang, these products can seamlessly adapt to a wide range of solar modules available in the market with different sizes. However, for the survey, Sungrow has provided the data for its 2021 model SGF-TS25. Similar to products from most other suppliers, this floater is made of UV- and corrosion-resistant HDPE material with metal trusses for the modules, and the company also provides special floats to house inverters and transformers. It can not only be installed on fresh and sea water, but also on sewage treatment reservoirs. It is certified according to BS 6920; thus, it is suitable for use in potable water bodies. Each float typically accommodates 2 solar panels of any type with frame and is installed in south-facing orientation (Watch presentation here).

The company’s typical floating solar system has a capacity of 5 MW. It can withstand wind speeds of 216 km/h, wave height of 1 m and snow load of 1kN/m2. Sungrow provides gravity anchoring and/or anchoring on piles based on stainless steel and concrete with anchoring points at the perimeter floats. It uses lines and chains for mooring. Sungrow offers single- and multi-cable floating solutions suitable for single high-voltage cables and multiple DC cable wiring, which can be customized according to the local environmental and safety codes. The inverters may also be integrated with transformers and medium-voltage cables connecting the transformers to the transmission grid. The inverter& booster platform equipment is compatible with both the mainstream centralized inverters and string inverters. The company provides a warranty of 5years for the complete system including structure, mooring and anchoring.
