In an interesting fireside chat with TaiyangNews Managing Director Michael Schmela, Enerparc COO and Co-Founder Stefan Müller emphasized the shift in utility scale solar towards customized designs based on regional conditions and the rising role of non-module components like transformers, batteries, cables and interconnections that account for as much as 75% of CapEx.

Müller noted that it is the energy traders who are increasingly dictating system design and not engineers or asset owners. Going forward, he sees increasing importance of AI and operational automation solutions along with integration of storage batteries in utility scale solar power plants becoming popular.

Jolywood Head of Overseas Technical support Wenyi Gong talks about the manufacturer’s Windproof Module that’s incorporates J-TOPCon high efficiency cells, Double-beam Structure, Backbone Steel Frame and Transparent Mesh Backsheet. It is designed specifically to withstand high winds in extreme weather events such as snowstorm, hailstorm and hurricanes. She claims that the Backbone Steel Frame used is 3x stronger than conventional aluminum frames. Under same deformation level: BACKBONE steel frame demonstrates 85% higher front load and 75% higher rear load.

Hybridisation enhances renewable integration, improves supply security, and lowers costs in utility-scale solar, stresses AFRY’s Principal Consultant Ignacio Cobo Berberana. By combining renewables or adding storage, hybrids create a baseload-like generation profile while mitigating variability, and ensure stronger, more reliable output, avoiding self-curtailment. The Deputy CTO of Cybrid, Hisanari Onouchi says the company’s RayBo UV conversion film is proven to offer >98% conversion efficiency, >99% UV cut, and >30 years durability. He claims that this effectively suppresses UV-ID in TOPCon modules, preventing degradation without initial power loss, ensuring a >40GWh return over 30 years in a 100MW plant.

Solar power plants today face key challenges of fragmented platforms across use cases, overwhelming data with complex dashboards, poor filtering of insights, and inconsistent user interfaces, according to the Becquerel Institute’s Head of AI, Mousa Sondoqah that he says can hinder efficient decision-making and seamless operations across PV systems.
