TOPCon started 2024 with 18 products and a 33% share, rising to 20 products and 35% by March, and ended the year with a 38% share due to a reduced total number of products
During 2023, TOPCon grew from 8 products and a 24% share, growing to 18 products and 33% by October, with notable entries from Tongwei and Canadian Solar
While Qcells temporarily exited the list in mid-2023 but growth continued with replacements from DMEGC and new entries
The latest TaiyangNews TOP SOLAR MODULES Analysis 2024 explores the market share of various solar cell technologies – IBC, HJT, TOPCon, and PERC – over the past 2 years. While previous articles focused on IBC and HJT technologies (see HJT Technology Trends in TOP SOLAR MODULES Analysis 2024), this article shifts attention to the advancements in TOPCon. Notably, TOPCon has experienced the highest growth among all solar technologies.
In January 2024, our TOP SOLAR MODULES listing consisted of 18 TOPCon-based products with a share of 33%. Qcells re-entered the list in February, increasing the total number of products to 19 and the share to 34%. This was followed by another addition in March, with Türkiye's Kalyon PV entering the listing for the first time, taking the product count to 20 and the share to 35%. While there were no additions in this technology stream for the remainder of the year, it ended up with an even higher share of 38% by year-end given the decrease in the total number of products starting in July (see IBC Technology: Efficiency Leader With Limited Representation In 2024).
In 2023, the TOPCon product count started at 8 with a share of 24%. The first change happened in March when Tongwei and Canadian Solar began offering their TOPCon modules commercially, raising the relative share to 27%. In June, Qcells’ product was removed from the list due to its datasheet being unavailable, but the total product count remained unchanged as DMEGC’s product replaced it in the listing that same month. July saw the addition of 5 more modules from Qn-SOLAR, Suntech, GCL SI, Runergy, and SolarSpace. This was followed by URECO in August, and Yingli and CECEP in October, bringing the total product count to 18 and increasing the share to 33%. Both the product count and the relative share remained unchanged for the rest of 2023, ending the year with 18 products and a 33% share (see HJT Technology Trends In TOP SOLAR MODULES Analysis 2024).
