  • TUV Rheinland has commissioned phase I of its new laboratory in China’s Taicang
  • It includes a solar PV module laboratory spread on 5,000 sq mtr space along with an EMC lab on over 2,000 sq mtr space
  • On completion of phase II by 2023-end, it will become the country’s largest laboratory site

Germany based global chain of testing and certification firm TUV Rheinland is building the ‘largest laboratory site’ in China’s Jiangsu province to be spread in 37,000 sq mtr space that includes a solar PV module testing laboratory spread on over 5,000 sq mtr area under phase I that has now come online.

Apart from the solar module lab, phase I of the €11 million investment will also have TUV offer electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing on over 2,000 sq mtr space. In addition, the 4,000 sq mtr area is dedicated to EMC testing of automotive electronics and automotive parts as autonomous vehicle systems as well as electric vehicles.

Under phase II of the project with another €11 million investment, the lab will be expanded to a total of 37,000 sq mtr by the end of 2023. Up to 500 people will be employed with 150 jobs already created so far. The site will be closely integrated into the company’s global laboratory network.

“For TUV Rheinland, the Yangtze River Delta Operation Hub is one of the largest single investments in recent years. This milestone project demonstrates the importance TÜV Rheinland attaches to the Chinese market,” says Dr. Michael Fübi, CEO of TÜV Rheinland AG. “With our tests for safety and quality, we support Chinese customers as they enter global markets.”
