German PVT hybrid module maker TWL-Technologie GmbH unveiled its latest PRISMA PVT RBX series model at Intersolar Europe 2025.

Understanding PVT

PVT technology is a hybrid solar solution that integrates photovoltaic and thermal energy generation into a single module. It consists of a conventional PV layer that converts sunlight into electricity, mounted above a thermal collector that captures excess heat produced during operation. This heat is transferred to a circulating fluid, typically a water-glycol solution, via embedded piping. The recovered thermal energy can then be used for applications such as domestic hot water, space heating, or industrial processes.

Developed in collaboration with Mubea, a leader in e-mobility cooling plates and a product development partner of TWL, the PRISMA PVT RBX features high-quality automotive-grade heat exchanger.

Product Description

Front Side

On the front side of the hybrid panel is a bifacial PV module, equipped with 144 pieces of TOPCon cells, which can deliver a power output of up to 450 W and an efficiency of up to 22.5%. It has an operational system voltage of up to 1,500 V DC and an open-circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current (Isc) of up to 52.9 V and 10.74 A, respectively. Laminated with front and rear side glass in dimensions of 1,762 × 1,134 × 30 mm, the module weighs up to 33 kg. To withstand the extreme weather of Europe, this front-side PV module is certified for snow and wind loads of up to 5,400 Pa and 4,000 Pa, respectively.

Rear Side

The rear surface of the panel, featuring a metal heat exchanger integrated with metal piping, can produce thermal heat of up to 1,100 W. The heat transfer fluid, circulated via a hydraulic system, operates in a pressure range of 1 to 3 bar and maintains a flow rate between 40 and 150 liters/hour. According to the company’s specifications, the system exhibits a low pressure loss of just 17 mbar at 144 liters/hour, indicating high heat exchange efficiency. Notably, its specified 1.75 liters of heat transfer medium volume enables highly efficient operation with brine heat pumps. The company claims it is also compatible with conventional heat pumping and geothermal regeneration applications.

PRISMA PVT RBX is expected to be commercially available starting in fall 2025. Warranty details will be announced upon its commercial release.
