Austria’s 3rd Funding Round Officially Opened

• Austria's BMK has announced a budget of €70 million for the 3rd funding call for rooftop solar and storage systems  
• This round focuses on systems with up 20 kW capacity as it was found to be the most popular over the last rounds  
• The 4th and the final funding call is scheduled to be launched in October 2023  

Austria's Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) has opened the 3rd funding call for rooftop solar and energy storage systems with €70 million, out of the €600 million it plans to disburse this year for this segment.  

The funding amount includes €60 million from the country's Renewable Energy Sources Expansion Act (EAG) with €10 million coming from the climate and energy fund.  

Systems with up to 10 kW installed capacity fall under category A to be funded with €285/kW. Category B includes systems between 10 kW and 20 kW that stand to win €250/kW.  

The focus of this funding round is on PV systems with up to 20 kW capacity since this segment was most popular in the last 2 rounds, according to the ministry.  

The last date to submit applications is September 6, 2023. Details are available on the EAG website.  

Over the last 2 funding rounds, the government has approved over 120,000 applications, mainly from private individuals. While the 1st round offered over €250 million, the 2nd funding round had a budget of €106 million (see Austria Opens New Funding Round).   

"The demand for solar power plants remains high. And that's a good thing, because every photovoltaic system gives us independence. Every photovoltaic system protects the climate and with every single system the users save money," said Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.  

The last and the final funding call is scheduled to be launched in October 2023.
