Bangladesh Invites Bids For 495 MW AC Solar PV Capacity

The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has invited bids for the installation of 495 MW AC grid-tied solar power capacity. It needs to be installed across 10 locations and awarded in 10 packages.  

The largest of the 10 projects, with a 100 MW AC capacity, will be located near Tangail. Another 5×50 MW AC projects will come up near substations in Cox’s Bazar, Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, and Netrokona. Kurigram and Bhaluka will host 2×45 MW AC capacity, while a 30 MW AC project is scheduled for Lohagara, Chattogram. The smallest project is a 25 MW AC facility in Kishoreganj.  

Winning bidders will be required to install this capacity and supply electrical energy to the local grid. 

BPDB launched the tender on April 27, 2026. It will accept proposals till June 28, 2026.  

Government-owned power supplier BPDB operates over 28.9 GW of installed power generation capacity, led by coal and gas as of April 2026. Solar accounts for 2.69% of this, with 777 MW of installed capacity.  

It is now reportedly mulling the development of the ‘largest’ solar project in Bangladesh with a capacity of 442 MW, planned to be located in Rampal, Bagerhat. To be financed through the Power Development Fund, it will start commercial operations by December 2030 for a tariff of BDT 6.18/kWh. According to local media reports, the proposal is being considered by the Planning Commission.
