Key Takeaways
  • BiH has allocated BAM 4 million for household prosumer projects, including BAM 1.2 million for socially vulnerable households

  • The program targets around 500 solar installations averaging 6 kW, expected to generate 4,200 MWh of renewable electricity annually

  • Applications will be accepted until the allocated funds are exhausted, subject to a maximum 90-day application period

The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has opened a public call to support solar installations for self-consumption. It has allocated BAM 4 million to encourage the development of household prosumer projects.

The Operator for Renewable Energy Sources and Efficient Cogeneration (Operator za OIEiEK) published the public call on October 1, 2026, inviting eligible households to apply for co-financing to build prosumer facilities.

Under the program, households can install solar power plants to generate electricity for their own consumption while supplying surplus electricity to the distribution grid.

The program aims to select around 500 prosumer plants with an average installed capacity of 6 kW for co-financing. The installations are expected to add 4,200 MWh of renewable electricity generation annually.

The program allocates BAM 1.2 million of the total budget to socially vulnerable households. For this group, Operator za OIEiEK will assume the entire cost of the project from design to grid connection.

The remaining BAM 2.8 million is reserved for eligible households seeking to install prosumer facilities. This group includes owners or co-owners of family houses with a minimum annual household consumption in the last 12 months exceeding 4,500 kWh. For this set of beneficiaries, the operator will cover 50% of the benchmark cost of installing each kW of capacity, subject to a cap of 60% of the project's eligible costs. The lower of the two amounts will apply, it added.

The application window will remain open until the allocated funds are exhausted, subject to a maximum period of 90 days from the final publication of the public call. Details are available on Operator za OIEiEK’s website.

According to Operator za OIEiEK, the program aims to support BiH's energy transition by encouraging households to install renewable energy systems. It also seeks to raise awareness of energy consumption, address energy poverty through social support, and increase renewable energy production and its share in overall energy consumption.

At the end of 2025, BiH had a total installed renewable energy capacity of 2.79 GW, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). This included 668 MW of solar PV, with 60 MW added during 2025.
