Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) will hold the A-5 as well as A-6 New Energy Auctions on September 16, 2022 for hydroelectric, wind, solar PV, thermoelectric, urban solid waste, biomass, biogas, natural gas projects, and others.

Solar PV gets to participate only in the A-5 auction. Projects can be contracted for a period of 15 or 20 years, however for solar PV facilities, the power purchase agreements (PPA) will have a duration of 15 years.

Selected facilities for the A-5 auction can come online on January 1, 2027, and those under A-6 auction, by January 1, 2028.

Projects that cleared technical qualification for A-4 New Energy Auction will be allowed to enter the competition for A-5 and A-6, provided all requisite parameters remain unchanged.

Interested companies need to register their projects through the Electric Energy Generation Enterprises Monitoring System (AEGE) and send necessary documentation with the government's Energy Research Company (EPE) for qualification latest by May 11, 2022. Details available here.
