Indiana, US-based electric utility CenterPoint Energy is inviting proposals for renewables, thermal and demand-side resources to meet the evolving energy needs of its customers in southwestern Indiana.  

Utility scale solar, wind and storage projects—both standalone or paired), thermal generation, load-modifying resources, demand-side resources and other innovative solutions are eligible to participate in the call. Winning facilities need to start supplying clean electricity latest by March 1, 2028.   

According to the request for proposals (RFP) call, eligible transactions include power purchase agreements (PPA), asset purchases including projects in development, and demand side contracts.   

“This RFP allows us to explore a wide range of technologies that can contribute to our long-term generation strategy. We are also building on the insights gained from previous RFPs to better meet the needs of our customers and adapt to ever-evolving market conditions,” said CenterPoint’s Vice President, Indiana Electric, Shane Bradford.   

The RFP was issued on August 15, 2024. Proposals will be accepted till October 8, 2024. Details are available on the utility’s website 

CenterPoint targets to achieve 80% share of solar and wind energy in its portfolio by 2030, with natural gas contributing the remaining capacity. At present, 85% of its electricity for southwest Indiana comes from coal. By 2030, it plans for solar to account for the largest chunk with a 54% share and phase out coal.
