Germany’s latest solar tender offers 2.266 GW ground mounted PV capacity
Project size limit remains 20 MW, but it may increase to 50 MW pending EU approval
Eligible sites include agricultural, arable and grassland in disadvantaged areas
The Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur of Germany has invited bids for its latest ground mounted solar energy auction for up to 2.266 GW capacity on offer. Bids are capped at €0.068/kWh. Winners will secure financial support under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
This capacity is subject to change as the European Commission is yet to approve the change in maximum individual capacity of such projects from 20 MW now to 50 MW under Solar Package I (see German Federal Government Approves Solar Package).
Winning projects in the latest tender can be installed on agricultural land, and on arable and grassland areas in disadvantaged areas. Germany caps the total solar PV capacity on agricultural land at 80 GW. As of March 31, 2025, the total installed capacity for this category stood at 10 GW.
Bundesnetzagentur announced the tender on May 27, 2025 with the last date of bid submissions being June 30, 2025.
In the previous round of ground mounted solar auction held this year on March 1, 2025, the agency awarded 2.64 GW capacity against 2.62 GW on offer for a weighted average bid of €0.0466/kWh (see Germany Awards 2.64 GW In Ground Mounted Solar Auction).
For this year, the agency plans to tender 9.9 GW of ground mounted PV capacity, distributed evenly across 3 bidding dates, but the volume will be adjusted.
