Key Takeaways
  • Germany is inviting bidders for the country’s latest innovation tender round

  • It has capped bids at €0.0918/kWh for 583.25 MW total volume on offer

  • In the previous round, the weighted average winning bid was €0.0833/kWh

The German Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur has launched a new innovation tender for renewable energies, inviting interested companies to bid for the 583.25 MW round.

The innovation tenders of Germany promote hybrid projects with the addition of battery energy storage systems (BESS). Solar systems, storage facilities, geothermal or hydroelectric plants must be registered as a project in the agency’s market data register by the bid deadline.

Only approved wind and biomass projects can submit applications for this round. The tariffs are capped at €0.0918/kWh.

Eligible solar projects can be open-space solar systems on agricultural land, and on arable and grassland areas in disadvantaged regions across all federal states.

The maximum bid volume for solar energy systems is limited to 20 MW even though the same has been raised to 50 MW under Solar Package I since this is yet to be approved under state aid law.

Bids for this round launched on July 26, 2024 can be submitted till September 2, 2024 since the usual deadline of September 1 falls on a Sunday. Details of the tender are available on the agency’s website.

In the previous innovation auction round, concluded on May 1, 2024, the agency awarded 512 MW total volume for solar systems and storage projects. The tendered volume was 583 MW and the weighted average winning bid was €0.0833/kWh (see Germany Awards 512 MW In Undersubscribed Auction).
