Key Takeaways
  • Grenergy has opened a new reverse renewable energy auction in Chile through its subsidiary GR Power

  • The auction is aimed at generators, retailers, and large electricity consumers seeking long-term supply

  • It says that successful contracts will be backed by the company's solar and battery storage assets across Chile

Grenergy, the Spanish renewable energy developer, has launched a reverse auction in Chile to sell 1.5 TWh of electricity annually from its portfolio of solar and battery energy storage projects in the country.

It is conducting the auction through its subsidiary GR Power. The auction targets electricity generators, retailers, and large industrial consumers seeking long-term renewable power supply. Recently, Grenergy signed the company’s largest power purchase agreement (PPA) by volume for 1 TWh/year during nighttime in Chile, to be served by its Elena battery storage project (see Grenergy Signs 15-Year 1 TWh Night-Time PPA In Chile).

Under the auction, Grenergy is offering 960 GWh/year of battery-stored electricity for nighttime delivery and 540 GWh/year of solar PV generation for daytime supply. Energy deliveries are scheduled to begin between Q2 and Q3 of 2028.

Participants can either bid for the entire volume or smaller 20 GWh contract blocks. Grenergy says it is offering contract durations of 6, 8, 10, 12, or 15 years, allowing buyers to select terms that match their procurement strategies.

The consultation period will remain open until July 7, 2026, while applications must be submitted by July 22, 2026, through the Match Energía power marketplace. Details are available on Grenergy’s website.

The company said it was the first clean energy producer in Latin America to launch its own renewable energy auction in 2022. This is its third renewable energy auction to date. The initial round was held in March 2022, followed by a 1.7 TWh/year round in April 2025 (see Grenergy’s 1.7 TWh/Year Reverse Auction In Chile).

Grenergy says its global development portfolio includes 12 GW of solar capacity and 71 GWh of energy storage. Chile is the company’s largest market in Latin America. Its Oasis Atacama platform in Chile currently combines 2.5 GW of solar capacity with 14 GWh of battery storage, while the Oasis Central project under development will add 1.4 GW of solar and 5.1 GWh of storage. The Spanish power producer is now expanding this integrated solar-plus-storage model into Europe as part of its €3.7 billion investment roadmap for 2028 (see Grenergy Raises 2028 Investment Plan To €3.7 Billion).
