  • MGVCL has issued 2 tenders inviting interested vendors to get empaneled with it for 1 GW rooftop solar capacity
  • It plans to get 700 MW grid connected residential rooftop solar capacity installed in urban areas
  • Another 300 MW will be installed in rural areas using ALMM approved cells and modules

Gujarat discom Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL) has invited applications from interested solar EPC vendors to get empaneled with it to install a total of 1 GW grid connected residential rooftop solar PV capacity in the state’s urban and rural areas.

While the maximum capacity it aims to deploy in urban areas adds up to 700 MW, for rural Gujarat it is 300 MW. For both the tenders, the capacity range is divided into 11 parts, ranging from 1 kW to up to 500 kW. Group housing societies can get a maximum of 500 kW capacity installed.

Broad scope of work includes design, supply, erection, testing and commissioning the capacity while providing comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) services for the system capacities deployed. Cells and modules are to be used as available from Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).

Empaneled vendors can expect to receive subsidy of 40% of the benchmark cost for capacity up to 3 kW, 20% for between 3 kW and up to 10 kW.

The tenders have been launched under the federal government’s Phase-II of Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Scheme and Surya Gujarat Scheme (2021-2022) for residential consumers. Surya Gujarat is the state government scheme to encourage rooftop solar adoption.

Last date to submit bids online is March 2, 2022, and offline March 5, 2022.

Under its National Solar Mission (NSM), India aims to deploy 40 GW rooftop solar capacity by the end of 2022. However, this segment has not really taken off from the start for various reasons. Recently the federal Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) assured it will simplify the procedure to get rooftop solar plant installed (see India PV News Snippets).
