The publicly owned utility company in Guyana, Guyana Power and Light (GPL) has launched a tender seeking bidders for the construction of 15 MW utility scale ground-mounted solar PV capacity along with 22 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS).  

Under the Guyana Utility Scale Solar Photovoltaic Program (GUYSOL), winners will need to set up 3 solar projects with BESS capacity. The broad scope of work is engineering, procurement and construction of the facilities under lot 2. It will be financed by part of proceeds from financing under Guyana-Norway Partnership.   

Guyana Power and Light is the executing agency for this call launched in June 2024. The last date to submit bids is September 26, 2024.   

In June 2024, the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) also launched a procurement process for the supply and delivery of PV equipment for 21 public and community buildings in 8 lots (see Guyana Energy Agency Launches Solar PV Tender).
