Key Takeaways
  • NTPC Limited and its subsidiaries have launched 3 separate renewable energy tenders representing around 3 GW capacity

  • One of these is a 1.2 GW ISTS-connected wind-solar hybrid project with a greenshoe option of up to 600 MW capacity

  • SECI has also announced the RTC tranche-IV tender for 1.2 GW renewable energy capacity

Over the last few days, government-owned public entities in India, NTPC and SECI have announced renewable energy tenders representing a combined 3.93 GW capacity. Of these, Indian state-owned utility NTPC Limited has launched 3 separate tenders, representing a combined 2.73 GW renewable energy capacity.

One among these is a tender seeking hybrid power generators for the supply of 1.2 GW power from Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) connected wind-solar hybrid power projects in India. It comes with a greenshoe option of an additional capacity of up to 600 MW on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis.

This call was launched on October 30, 2024 with the last date of bid submission being December 2, 2024.

Another tender from the utility has been launched by its subsidiary NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL). This one is an EPC package for the development of 630 MW grid-connected solar PV capacity, to be developed as 2x315 MW. This 630 MW is planned to be located in the Barethi region of Madhya Pradesh.

The last date for this tender launched on November 6, 2024 is November 14, 2024.

For a ground-mounted solar PV project near NTPC Anta, NTPC REL is looking for bidders for a 300 MW EPC package with land. This ISTS-connected project will be grid-connected to the NTPC Anta substation in Rajasthan.

This tender was announced on October 25, 2024 with December 5, 2024 as the last date of bid submission.

SECI

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has invited renewable energy developers (RPD) for the supply of 1.2 GW round-the-clock (RTC) power from ISTS-connected renewable energy projects in India. Projects can incorporate solar PV, wind and other renewable energy based components with energy storage.

Energy storage systems (ESS) are mandatory to accompany selected projects. These can either be owned by the RPD or tied up separately with a 3rd party.

Launched under RTC tranche-IV, it requires eligible projects to be installed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis anywhere in India. SECI as the primary offtaker will enter 25-year power purchase agreements (PPA) with the winners and sell it further to different buying entities.

Interested developers will be responsible for identifying the land, along with the project installation and setting the transmission network up to interconnection/delivery points. Projects need to be interconnected with the ISTS substation at a voltage level of 220 kV or above.

A single bidder can submit a bid with a 50 MW minimum and 600 MW maximum capacity.

SECI launched the tender on October 30, 2024. The last date for bid submission is December 16, 2024.
