MAHAPREIT plans a 100 MW AC floating solar PV project at Tansa Dam and/or Modak Sagar Dam in Thane district
The project will have a 25-year PPA with MAHAPREIT, with electricity supplied to the BMC under an offtake arrangement
Developers must commission the project within 18 months, with bids due by February 13, 2026
The Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) is soliciting bids for the development of a 100 MW grid-connected floating solar PV power project in the state of Maharashtra.
The project is proposed to be located at Tansa and/or Modak Sagar Dam in the state’s Thane district. It will be developed on a build, finance, operate, and transfer (BFOT) basis with MAHAPREIT entering a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a period of 25 years. MAHAPREIT will supply this power to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as the end procurer under an offtake agreement.
Bidders will be responsible for design, financing, acquisition/leasing of the water body, while carrying out detailed engineering, procurement, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the project.
Developers will be free to install floating solar PV power projects on the identified water bodies at the Tansa and/or Modak Sagar Dams. If the 100 MW capacity is not technically feasible at Tansa Dam, the remaining capacity, amounting to an aggregate capacity of 100 MW, can be installed at Modak Sagar Dam. The project will need to be commissioned within 18 months.
Interested solar power developers have until February 13, 2026, to submit their bids for the tender issued on January 17, 2026. Details are available on MAHAPREIT’s website.
This floating PV project is part of the BMC’s broader plans to cover Tansa, Modak Sagar, Tulsi, and Powai Lakes with renewable energy, according to local media reports.
