NGEL is seeking EPC bidders for 1,100 MW/3,300 MWh of BESS capacity across four blocks
The BESS is required to have a 25-year design life and 98% annual system availability
NGEL says it will accept EPC bids until October 27, 2026, for the turnkey project
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the green energy arm of Indian utility NTPC Limited, has invited EPC bids for the deployment of a 3,300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at NTPC REL Khavda Solar Plant in Gujarat.
This capacity will be spread across four blocks. Of these, three blocks will have 300 MW/900 MWh BESS capacity, while one will have 200 MW/600 MWh capacity. This capacity is the deliverable AC capacity to be demonstrated by the bidder at the time of commercial operation date at the point of interconnection. Comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) is also part of the job.
The BESS system, including batteries, are required to have a 25-year design life based on daily single-cycle operation, with capacity degradation as proposed by the bidder. Sizing must account for 1% power transformer losses and 0.25% transmission line losses up to the POI. Annual system availability must be maintained at 98%.
The bidder also needs to complete grid compliance study for the complete project which is designated solar + BESS + power evacuation.
For each block, the minimum dispatchable energy at the end of the first year should be 98%, reaching 70% in the 15th year.
The broad scope of work for interested EPCs is design, engineering, supply, packing and forwarding, transportation, unloading, storage, installation and commissioning of the BESS facility on turnkey basis. Each BESS block, it says, will be connected at 33 kV level of a designated solar plant.
NGEL launched the call on September 23, 2026. It will accept bids till October 27, 2026.
