The sole buyer of power and water from independent power and water producers in all of Oman, the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (OPWP) has launched a tender to seek bidders for 500 MW solar power capacity to be developed as Ibri III Solar Independent Power Producer (IPP) Project.

It seeks bidders to provide technical consultancy for this project and to advice on its competitive tendering. In a very brief announcement, OPWP said it aims for this project to start commercial operations by Q4/2026 in keeping with the country's vision to diversify its power generation sources with clean energy.

Launched on October 27, 2022, bidding documents will be available till November 8, 2022. Bids can be submitted till December 7, 2022. Details are available on the tender page of OPWP's parent Nama Group.

Ibri is a town in the Governorate of Al Dhahirah. Earlier this year in January 2022, a consortium of ACWA Power, GIC and AEPC commissioned 500 MW AC Ibri II solar IPP project under a 15-year PPA with OPWP (see 500 MW AC Ibri II PV Project Online In Oman).

Recently, the country also established a green hydrogen company called Hydrom to make use of its renewable energy resources and produce 1 million ton per annum (MTPA) by 2030. It will launch the 1st bidding round on November 6, 2022 to award land blocks in Duqm (see Oman's 2030 Green Hydrogen Target Is 1 Million Ton/Year).
