  • DTE Energy has opened an RFP round seeking proposals for around 500 MW new renewable energy capacity
  • It needs to come from new wind and solar power projects located in Michigan and must come online in 2023
  • This capacity will expand the utility's clean energy generation supply under the MIGreenPower program

Detroit, US based electric utility DTE Energy has opened a competitive procurement round seeking proposals for the development of new wind and solar energy facilities, adding up to a total of around 500 MW, with and without energy storage.

Eligible projects must be located in Michigan, and interconnected to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) or distribution level transmission. DTE Energy wants to contract projects that can start commercial operations in 2023.

Through its voluntary renewable energy program called MIGreenPower, it supplies clean energy to 35 industrial, 450 small businesses and over 48,000 residential customers. The utility said in 2021 it increased its clean energy generation by 40% with the help of 3 new wind parks and 1 new solar park to source clean energy commitments from MIGreenPower customers.

The addition of 500 MW new renewable energy capacity will expand MIGreenPower's offering further. By 2025, the utility plans to double its clean energy generation portfolio that currently comprises more than 50 wind and solar parks, and invest an additional $3 billion in renewable energy infrastructure.

DTE Energy is conducting a pre-RFP conference on February 15, 2022, and will accept responses to this request for proposal (RFP) round till April 29, 2022. Companies need to first register on PowerAdvocate website. Details can be sourced from DTE Energy.

In October 2021, DTE Energy launched a RFP for 20 MW solar power project as the 1st MIGreenPower Community Solar facility (see North America PV News Snippets).
