Key Takeaways
  • SJVN has invited interested bidders for its 6 GWh renewable energy supply tender

  • Developers will be required to supply assured peak power from ISTS-connected facilities with ESS

  • Peak hours refer to a 4-hour duration from 0000 hours to 0800 hours in the morning, and 1700 hours to 2400 hours in the evening

Indian hydropower utility SJVN Limited has launched a call for renewable energy project developers to supply it with 6 GWh of assured peak power from facilities with energy storage system (ESS) located anywhere in India and connected via the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS).

This 6 GWh (1,500 MW x 4 hours) will be supplied to SJVN as the intermediary nodal agency and power procurer under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). It will then further sell the same to different buying entities in India.

Interested developers can bid for projects with a minimum capacity of 50 MW, and a maximum of 750 MW. A bidder can offer projects at multiple locations provided each project has a minimum 50 MW capacity.

Projects located in the Northeastern States and special category states can have a minimum 30 MW capacity. Additional capacity can be quoted in multiples of 10 MW only.

Renewable energy assets located in Rajasthan and Gujarat will need to adhere to the Supreme Court orders on retrofitting transmission lines and wind turbines to avoid bird collision in Great Indian Bustard habitats in these states.

Selected project developers will supply the contracted capacity keeping an availability of a minimum of 90% during peak hours of the contracted capacity on a monthly basis. Peak hours here mean a 4-hour duration from 0000 hours to 0800 hours in the morning, and 1700 hours to 2400 hours in the evening on a daily basis.

The buying entity shall intimate the 4-hour peak hour duration during which it intends to draw power. It will choose the 4 hours in such a manner that there is a continuous discharge from the ESS for at least an hour, according to the tender documents.

SJVN issued the tender on December 6, 2024, and specifies the last date of submission as January 24, 2025. Details are available on its website.
