The state utility of Uruguay in Latin America has launched a tender seeking EPC contractors to carry out solar plant work for a 30 MW solar farm in the country. It will be located in Punta del Tigre region of San Jose department.

As per the tender announcement, UTE expects the selected company to supply and install electrical equipment on site, and commission the facility. Operation and maintenance of the solar farm on completion will also be the winner's scope of work. However, as BNamericas noted the winner will not be required to supply and install solar panels or their respective structures and inverters.

UTE will accept bids for the works tender till November 12, 2021. Details will be available on the utility's website.

Recently, the company launched a Renewable Energy Certificates (CER) system, an accreditation mechanism under which such a certificate can be issued automatically, basis renewable energy consumed by the user. At no cost for the companies, the certificate can be claimed by medium and large energy consumers starting from January 1, 2022.

Uruguay is targeting to ensure 100% electrification for the country by the end of 2024. Solar power parks will be incorporated into the electricity system from 2028 to 'complement' wind energy. Solar PV will be the 'energy of the future', said UTE President Silvia Emaldi in a recent interview.
