  • Total Eren has signed a MoU with Northern Territory government for a solar powered green hydrogen project
  • Darwin H2 Hub will have over 2 GW solar PV capacity powering 1 GW hydrogen electrolyzer on completion
  • It will produce more than 80,000 green hydrogen annually to be supplied to domestic and international firms

French renewables company Total Eren has proposed to develop a green hydrogen project in Northern Territory (NT), Australia with more than 2 GW solar PV capacity powering 1 GW hydrogen electrolyzer to produce over 80,000 tons annually.

Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Territory Labor Government, Total Eren plans to deploy this project in Darwin calling it Darwin H2 Hub.

It is intended to be a renewable energy generation and hydrogen production plant to be supplied to domestic and international firms to decarbonize their businesses with green hydrogen. The project will also facilitate new industries to move towards a net zero economy.

"Our plan is to accelerate the development of the project to supply green hydrogen and also the opportunity to provide renewable energy which supports the decarbonization plans for energy-intensive industries in the Territory," stated Total Eren Australia's Managing Director Kam Ho.

For the NT government, green hydrogen is an 'important energy vector' to the economy's energy transition. Its Budget 2022 allocates AUD 5.01 million over 4 years for accelerated hydrogen industry development. Together with Total Eren, the government will progress the Darwin H2 Hub.

Darwin is the location of another solar powered green hydrogen project with 2.8 GW capacity, proposed by Global Energy Ventures in 2021 (see 2.8 GW Green Hydrogen Project In Australia).

Total Eren is already on board for Province Resources' HyEnergy Zero Carbon Hydrogen project in Western Australia that aims to use 8 GW of renewable energy capacity to produce green hydrogen (see Total Eren Joins 8 GW Green Hydrogen Project In Australia).
