Trina Solar’s RMB 6 Billion Production Plans

  • Phase I will have 5 GW solar cells and 10 GW modules coming online, to be followed by phase II with 10 GW cells and 5 GW modules

Chinese solar cell and module manufacturer Trina Solar has announced plans to invest RMB 6 billion on realizing 15 GW high efficiency solar cells and 15 GW high efficiency modules in Huaian region of China in Jiangsu province.

Under phase I, the plan is to realize 5 GW solar cells and 10 GW modules followed by 10 GW solar cell and 5 GW module capacity as per an investment agreement reached with the Huaian Economic and Technological Development Zone. It is aligned with the company’s business development needs, the company stated in a stock exchange announcement.

It targets to bring online phase I of the project within 12 months once all land is available to start construction. Phase II will be initiated basis market development at the time.

“The signing of this investment agreement will help the company to take advantage of the local policies and industrial supporting advantages of Huai’an and further strengthen the company’s leading edge in the field of high efficiency cells and modules,” added Trina Solar.

Expansion of the production capacity is also aimed at improving the company’s profitability and enhancing its comprehensive competitiveness, in line with its long-term development plan and all shareholders, it stated.

In June 2022, Trina announced plans for a major industrial project to enter all aspects of the industrial solar PV value chain. It included industrial silicon, high purity polysilicon, wafers, cells and modules along with balance of materials (BOM) (see Trina Announces Massive Solar PV Production Plans).
