The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in Turkey says it has received an overwhelming response to its 1 GW solar PV tender with 131 interested companies submitting offers that add up to a total of 9.44 GW.

National solar PV association Gunder in an article on Solarist said bidders have proposed to develop this capacity in the form of 709 projects to be set up in 36 provinces with capacities of 10 MW, 15 MW and 20 MW.

For the background, Turkey had announced a 1 GW solar tender in July 2020 under its Renewable Energy Resources Zones (YEKA) scheme with plans for the actual auction in October 2020 (see 1 GW Solar Power Tender Launched In Turkey). Later the ministry confirmed it will be launching the tender between March 8, 2021 to March 12, 2021 as 74 mini tenders.

Tariffs have been capped at TRY 0.35 ($0.046) per kWh. The ministry will evaluate the offers received, before shortlisting companies for the next round.

Turkey is reported to have installed 672 MW new solar PV capacity in 2020, out of 4.8 GW added during the period. Cumulative installed solar power capacity of the country at the end of 2020 exceeded 6.66 GW (see Turkey Installed 4.8 GW Renewable Energy In 2020).
