  • HPI has commissioned a 320 MW floating solar power plant on a single site in China
  • The project has come online in 2 phases of 200 MW in November 2021, followed by 120 MW capacity in December 2021
  • It is located on a reservoir owned by Huaneng's Dezhou Thermal Power Plant in Shandong province

The world's largest single location floating solar power plant with 320 MW capacity has come online in China, after Huaneng Power International (HPI) commissioned phase II of the project with 120 MW capacity on December 30, 2021.

Under phase I, 200 MW floating PV capacity on site had already been grid connected on November 20, 2021.

The facility is located in Dezhou, Shandong province and is in the vicinity of a 100 MW onshore wind and 8 MW of energy storage capacity, making it an integrated wind, solar and storage project. All the power generation technologies will be using the same transmission infrastructure.

The 320 MW floating solar has come up on a reservoir owned by 2.65 GW Dezhou Thermal Power Plant, also operated by Huaneng.

In July 2021, Sembcorp Industries commissioned a 60 MW floating solar power plant on Tengeh Reservoir using Trina Solar's modules (see 60 MW Floating Solar System Online In Singapore).

However, there are also GW level floating solar power plants announced in the world, a 2.1 GW project in South Korea, followed by a 2.2 GW project in Indonesia by Sunseap.
