World’s ‘Largest’ RE Park Starting To Come Online

• AGEL has announced the grid-connection of a 551 MW solar power plant in Khavda, Gujarat 
• It has become the initial project to have come online out of the company's 30 GW renewables park planned on location  
• The massive park is expected to come online within the next 5 years to generate an estimated 81 billion units 

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has connected a 551 MW solar power plant to the national grid in Khavda, Gujarat. With this, it has kickstarted the operations of what it plans to be the world's 'largest' renewable energy park with 30 GW installed capacity. 

AGEL said it completed the 551 MW solar plant within 12 months of commencing work. In the process, it also transformed the challenging and barren terrain of the Rann of Kutch into a habitable environment for its 8,000 strong workforce. 

The company says it conducted extensive studies and deployed multiple innovative solutions to accelerate the development of the plant. 

Planned to be completed within next 5 years, the 30 GW park is expected to generate 81 billion units of clean electricity, enough to power 16.1 million homes/year. 

It is expected to create over 15,200 green jobs and help avoid 58 million tons of carbon emissions/year. AGEL added that in the process it is supporting the development of an indigenous and sustainable supply chain. 

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani added, "Through bold and innovative projects like the Khavda RE plant, AGEL continues to set higher global benchmarks and rewrite the world's planning and execution standards for giga-scale renewable energy projects." 

With this 551 MW solar plant, AGEL now has an operational renewable energy generation capacity of 9.03 GW, claiming it to be the largest in India. By 2030, it aims to expand its renewables portfolio to 45 GW. 

In December 2023, AGEL raised a green loan of $1.36 billion from 8 international banks to fund the development of 2.167 GW renewable energy capacity in Khavda as part of its 17 GW renewable energy project (see $1.36 Billion For World's Largest RE Park In India).
