2 GW DC Solar PV Module Supply Deal For First Solar

• Swift Current Energy has expanded its solar module order with First Solar by 2 GW DC
• It will be completed by First Solar in 2025 and 2026 as the manufacturer had previously shared that it was completely sold out from 2022 to 2024
• With over 9 GW planned renewable energy assets across North America, Swift says the module order provides it certainty of supply

US based renewable energy developer Swift Current Energy will procure 2 GW DC worth of thin film solar modules from local manufacturer First Solar for its utility scale solar PV projects spread across North America.

First Solar will complete the 2 GW DC delivery in the years 2025 and 2026. It represents the 2^nd GW+ level order for the manufacturer from Swift. Earlier this year in January 2022, the company contracted First Solar to supply 1.2 GW DC modules to be delivered in 2023 and 2024 (see First Solar: 1.2 GW DC Series 6 Module Order).

Swift counts its commercially operational renewable energy capacity comprising wind and solar projects in the country as over 1 GW, and a pipeline exceeding 9 GW planned renewable assets across North America.

"With the US rapidly advancing its energy infrastructure, our project pipeline is growing and we're focused on ensuring that our capacity comes online as planned," said CEO of Swift Current Energy, Eric Lammers. "Against this backdrop, it's crucial that we work with partners like First Solar that will deliver not only high quality, responsibly-made products, but also certainty of supply."

This agreement adds to First Solar's bulky order book that at the end of June 2022 counted its total contracted to-date backlog as 44.3 GW. While sharing its Q2/2022 financial results, First Solar had said it was sold out for 2022, 2023 and 2024 from all manufacturing fabs, excluding India (see First Solar's Q2/2022 Financial Results).

First Solar expects its annual solar module manufacturing capacity to expand to over 20 GW DC by 2025 once its US and India fabs come online (see First Solar Reveals 4^th US Solar Manufacturing Facility).
