  • Eternal Sun has acquired WAVELABS, expanding its module testing portfolio to include solar cell measurement capabilities

  • The German firm has now become a 100% subsidiary of the Dutch group, rechristened WAVELABS Eternal Sun, but it will retain its brand identity in the market

  • This follows capital support for Eternal Sun from its majority stake sale to Bolster in May 2025

Netherlands-based solar module testing and simulators company Eternal Sun has acquired its German peer WAVELABS Solar Metrology GmbH, for an undisclosed amount.

The Dutch firm says that WAVELABS’ LED-based solar simulators for solar cell measurement complement its expertise in testing systems for solar modules. This combined product portfolio expands its portfolio to a seamless solar testing offering globally, across the entire value chain – R&D to mass manufacturing.

“With WAVELABS joining the Eternal Sun family, we can offer our customers an unmatched range of cell and module testing solutions,” said Eternal Sun CEO Florian van Rijn van Alkemade. “Together, we will shape the future of solar quality assurance and accurate characterization.”

Eternal Sun has also launched a subsidiary called WAVELABS Eternal Sun GmbH, which will continue to operate from WAVELABS’ Leipzig site as a 100% subsidiary of Eternal Sun Group B.V. However, both WAVELABS and Eternal Sun brands will remain independent and visible in the market, according to the management.

Before acquiring WAVELABS, Eternal Sun acquired Spire Corporation’s solar simulator division, Spire Solar, in 2016.

Founded as a spin-off from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, Eternal Sun attracted the Dutch long-term investment firm Bolster Investment Partners as its majority stakeholder in May 2025. Bolster acquired an 80% stake in the company from Vermec and ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund (see Dutch Investor Acquires Majority Stake In Eternal Sun).

Eternal Sun says its acquisition of the German testing firm was made possible with additional capital from Bolster’s acquisition.

At the recently concluded Intersolar Europe 2025, WAVELABS promoted its upcoming SINUS-3000 ADVANCED Compact characterization tool for perovskite-Si tandem module, as shared by the team with TaiyangNews (see Characterization Tool For Perovskite-Si Tandem Modules: WAVELABS SINUS-3000 ADVANCED Compact).
