LONGi has started a patent infringement lawsuit against JinkoSolar in the US
It has also named the company’s Vietnam subsidiary in the lawsuit
JinkoSolar has been given time till March 17, 2025 to file its responses
Chinese solar PV manufacturer LONGi Green Energy Technology has filed a lawsuit against its peer JinkoSolar in the Texas Eastern District Court, accusing it of patent infringement.
It reportedly filed the lawsuit against Jinko Solar, Jinko Solar Technology, JinkoSolar (Vietnam) Industries, and JinkoSolar Holding in the US on January 17, 2025. The latter is required to answer the court on March 17, 2025.
LONGi is already fighting JinkoSolar in a similar case filed in China’s Shandong after the latter launched lawsuits against the former in China, Japan and Australia (see LONGi Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against JinkoSolar).
The fight is allegedly for patents related to the TOPCon solar technology, something that has led to similar cases mushrooming among other manufacturers. JinkoSolar recently launched a lawsuit against India’s Waaree Group in the US after also accusing VSUN Solar USA and TOYO of infringing on its proprietary technology (see JinkoSolar Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against India’s Waaree).
Trinasolar too is pursuing TOPCon patent infringement lawsuits against Canadian Solar, Runergy and Adani. Trina is demanding RMB 1.058 billion in total damages from Canadian Solar in a Chinese court (see Trinasolar Seeking RMB 1 Billion+ In Damages From Canadian Solar).
