Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has issued a request for pre-qualification (RFQ) for two PV projects of 125 MW capacity each. This is Ethiopia's first round of the Scaling Solar program under the aegis of the World Bank's IFC.
For the Scaling Solar program, it is the fifth tender in Africa till date. Recently, it launched a tender in Madagascar. In Zambia, two Scaling Solar backed tenders have been launched so far (see Zambia RFQ For Scaling Solar).
With the Ethiopian tender, EEP will pre-qualify prospective bidders with requisite experience, expertise and financial resources. Shortlisted bidders will then send in their request for proposals in the second round.
RFQ documents will be available to purchase from the head office of EEP or can be bought online by sending an email to eep.procure@gmail.com. Last date to submit filled in applications is November 21, 2017. Further details are available on the website of Scaling Solar.
Ethiopia wants to develop up to 500 MW of solar power under the Scaling Solar Program. Currently, the African country supplies 70% of its energy from hydropower.
