  • Second phase of Risen 210 high-efficiency module project in Yiwu begins production
  • Since November 2020, Trina Solar has signed long-term orders with a number of upstream companies
  • Risen Energy and Sineng Electric have signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the co-construction of 600W+ Industrial Ecosystem
  • Chint Solar's three photovoltaic power stations in the Netherlands have been completed and connected to the grid

Risen Energy's Yiwu project's 2nd-phase production begins: The second phase of Risen's 210mm high-efficiency module manufacturing project at Yiwu has begun production. With an investment of RMB 2.5 billion ($.38 billion), this fab has an annual production capacity of 5 GW solar modules. The construction of the first phase of the production line, covering an area of 96 mu, began in July 2018, and was put into operation in November last year. The second phase began in September last year. After the project is fully operational, the annual sales revenue is expected to be RMB 12 billion ($1.84 billion).

Trina Solar signs long-term orders with different companies as it strives to reach 50 GW module capacity end of 2021: In  November and early December 2020, Trina Solar announced long-term orders with a number of upstream companies. Here is the list:

  • For silicon material, it has signed agreement with Tongwei for 72,000 tons; and with Daqo New Energy for 30000 to 37,600 tons (see Trina Solar Secures Long Term Polysilicon Supply)
  • For silicon wafer, with Shangji Automation for 2.367 billion wafers; and with Zhonghuan Semiconductor for 1.2 billion wafers
  • For glass, with Almaden for 85 million square meters
  • For silicon material up to 37,000 MT, it signed a supply deal with Daqo

In addition, under the investments Trina agreed upon with Tongwei, both will launch a new entity as part of their joint venture agreement. Tongwei enters this deal through its subsidiaries Sichuan Yongxiang Co., Ltd. and Tongwei Solar Co., Ltd. The new project company will have both the partners jointly invest about $2.3 billion to produce:

Sineng and Risen partner for 600W+ Industrial Ecosystem: Chinese solar PV cell and module producer Risen Energy and inverter manufacturer Sineng Electric have signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the co-construction of 600W+' Industrial Ecosystem.' The two companies discussed in depth the advantageous cooperation opportunities of 210 series related products. Speaking at the event, President of Sineng Electric, Duan Yuhe, said that the innovative design of low opening voltage and high load capacity not only enables Solar Energy 210 series photovoltaic module products to have higher power, but the cost per kilowatt-hour of photovoltaic systems can also be greatly reduced, thus winning the favor of the market.

Chint completes 3 new PV power plants in Netherlands: Chinese solar cell and module producer Chint Solar's three PV power stations in the Netherlands have been completed and connected to the grid. With a total capacity of approximately 152 MW, the stations are located in different areas – one in Stadskanaal with 101 MW capacity, another in Buinerveen with 45 MW capacity, while the third one is in Ommelanderwijk with 5.7 MW capacity. Up till now, Chint has developed and built six photovoltaic power plants in the Netherlands with a total capacity of 285.2 MW. Meanwhile, last month Chint Solar had begun construction of its 150 MW complementary PV power generation project in Bahe, Xishui, China (see China PV News Snippets: Tongwei, Chint, Jolywood)

TaiyangNews Virtual Conference on High Efficiency Solar Technologies: The last day of TaiyangNews Virtual Conference on High Efficiency Solar Technologies ended on a high note. The speakers were Dr Radovan Kopecek, Managing Director, Advanced Cell Concepts of Germany Research Center ISC Konstanz; Dr Doug Rose, VP Technology Strategy at IBC leader SunPower; Industry veteran Dr Charlie Gay, CEO at US start-up Violet Power; and Dr Ginalucca Coletti from Dutch Research Center TNO ECN. They had a vibrant discussion around back contact cell technology: 'IBC – All Ways Lead to the Efficiency Leading Technology. And what might come next.'

Meanwhile, on Day 2 of the conference, TaiyangNews launched the 2nd edition of its Heterojunction Solar Technology Report 2020. CSEM, Risen Energy & Toyo Aluminium at the conference said they saw HJT a worthy contender but also felt industry needs to lower costs (see Day 2: TaiyangNews High Efficiency Solar Event).
