Tongwei's RMB 20.5 bn crystalline silicon project begins: Announced in March 2020, now construction has begun for a high-purity crystalline silicon plant of Chinese polysilicon and solar cell manufacturer Tongwei Group (see Tongwei To Expand Polysilicon Production By 40,000 MT). Spread across 46 hectares of land, the plant is located in Baoshan Industrial and Trade Park and is worth RMB 20.5 billion ($3.13 billion). The construction is divided into three phases and is expected to have an annual production capacity of 40,000 tons. The plant is expected to be operational in 2021. It is already working on a polysilicon project with 35,000 MT capacity in Leshan province that's scheduled to come online by the end of September 2021. On completion of both these projects, Tongwei's annual polysilicon production capacity will go up to 155,000 MT, which will make it the world's largest silicon manufacturer. Earlier in the year, Tongwei had announced plans to invest about RMB 20 billion ($2.87 billion) to build a 30 GW of high efficiency solar cell manufacturing hub in Chengdu province of China, which would bring its total capacity to 60 GW by end of next year (see Tongwei Targets Up To 100 GW Cell Capacity)

China Glass adds solar capacity: Flat glass and domestic major coated glass manufacturer, China Glass Holdings Limited, has decided to expand the product range of two of the Group's production lines in Jiangsu and Shaanxi, China. This expansion will have a combined daily melting capacity of 1,000 tons per day, to include ultra-white float glass to the original product line of high-end automotive glass. This is for the purpose of supplying components for photovoltaic modules (i.e. solar panels) and the Group's proposed new solar glass deep processing production line. Solar glass is in short supply as a key component in the production of PV modules while prices have been on the rise in recent months – and that's expected not to change for another while (see China PV News Snippets: Guangdong, PV Glass, Polysilicon).

Chint Solar begins 150 MW PV power generation project: The PV subsidiary of the CHINT group, Chint Solar, has officially begun construction of its 150 MW complementary PV power generation project in Bahe, Xishui, China. The project will be constructed in two phases – first for 100 MW, followed by the second phase of 50 MW. The project is expected to be completed and the power generation to begin by December 2021. Chint's PV module entity Chint Astronergy provided during the TaiyangNews Reliable Module Design Conference deep insights into its module technology and plans (see Better Technology=Higher Reliability For Astronergy).

Jolywood signs cooperation agreement with Huawei: Chinese leading solar backsheet and module producer Jolywood and global provider of information and communications technology infrastructure and smart devices Huawei Digital Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., signed an agreement to carry out comprehensive, wide-ranging and in-depth cooperation on smart energy markets, technologies, products, applications, and resource sharing. Both the companies intend to build a high-level industrial ecology for the household photovoltaic market. Jolywood will speak about its high-efficiency TOPCon solar module technology at the upcoming TaiyangNews High Efficiency Solar Technology Conference (see Dec 1-4 TaiyangNews HJT Report Launch Conference).
