Tongwei to establish Global Innovation R&D Center: Tongwei Solar is constructing its Global Innovation R&D Center at its Shuangliu site, in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. Tongwei says that it has received the equipment. Through the R&D center, the company aims to focus on the research of high-efficiency crystalline silicon cells and materials, high-efficiency and reliable modules, photovoltaic (PV) testing and analysis, and new technologies, including heterojunction (HJT), TNC, TBC cells and modules, copper interconnect metallization, perovskite-crystalline silicon tandem solar cells, and new solar modules. Sunwell has supplied the copper interconnect equipment for the R&D center. Tongwei further aims to efficiently develop core and cutting-edge technologies, conduct material and device characterization, and evaluate the reliability of module products.

Tongwei, with a bid of RMB 0.885 /W, was one of the 5 companies shortlisted by China Three Gorges recently (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

QW Solar launches 3 GW HJT module fab: QW Solar has announced the commissioning of its production base in Anhui Province. The first and second phases of this base involve the construction of production facilities for 12 GW of HJT modules, 5 GW of HJT cells, 5 GW of large-size ultra-thin silicon wafers, and 2 GW of impurity absorption lines annually. With this commissioning, the company has launched a production line for 3 GW of high-efficiency HJT modules. Phase III will include a production line capable of producing 1.5 million tons/year of solar glass, along with related facilities. At the commissioning ceremony, QW Solar introduced the Orca XII series of HJT modules, which, according to TUV SUD tests, can achieve a maximum power of 742.7 W, suitable for offshore solar PV applications.

Sungrow postpones 100 GW equipment manufacturing fab: Sungrow has announced a delay in its plans for a 100 GW renewable energy equipment manufacturing base, originally planned for Hefei City, Anhui Province. The base includes capacity for photovoltaic/ storage/ string/ central/inverters totaling 95.73GW, and microinverters, optimizers, switchgears totaling 4.27GW. Sungrow has postponed the launch of this facility to June 30, 2025, initially scheduled to be operational by April 30, 2024, due to a delay in construction.

Recently, Sungrow reported a 69% YoY increase in its FY2023 inverter shipments, reaching 130 GW worldwide (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

HY Solar to build 16 GW TOPCon solar cell fab in Inner Mongolia: HY Solar has announced its plan to invest in a new 16 GW TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility in Baotou, Inner Mongolia. It plans to invest RMB 5.5 billion ($763 million) in the facility that will be executed in 2 phases. As part of Phase I, it plans for a 10 GW capacity with an investment of RMB 3.6 billion ($500 million), which is expected to go online in 2025. The second phase will add 6 GW of capacity for RMB 1.9 billion ($263 million) in investment.

Trina Solar & Yi Jun Yao Neng sign strategic cooperation agreement: Trina Solar and Yi Jun Yao Neng have announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement. According to the agreement, Trina Solar will purchase about RMB 7 billion ($966.58 million) of high-quality PV glass from Yi Jun Yao Neng. The companies see this signing as an opportunity to explore more points of cooperation between them and expand it further.
