TaiyangNews Virtual Conference – just 1 day to go; Tongwei's Baoshan City polysilicon fab online; Tongwei's HJT module hits 762.79 W; Astronergy plans new n-type cell & module fab; RenShine's large-size perovskite modules reach 20.86% efficiency; NEA releases numbers for Q1 2024.

TaiyangNews Virtual Conference – 1 Day to go: The TaiyangNews Virtual Conference on Cell & Module Production Equipment & Processing Materials will take place on May 7 & 8, 2024.

Day 1 of the 2-Day Conference will begin with a welcome address by Michael Schmela, Managing Director, TaiyangNews, followed by a keynote address by Markus Fischer from ITRPV. It will be followed by presentations from Yichun Wang from LONGi Solar; Homer Chen, from S.C New Energy; Josua Stuckelberger from Laplace; Baochen Liao from Leadmicro; Ning Chen, from Autowell; and Fangqing Guo from DKEM.

The Conference will conclude with a Panel Discussion on the topic: Technology Trends in Solar Cell Manufacturing. The entire Conference and Panel Discussion will be moderated by Shravan Chunduri, Head of Technology, TaiyangNews.

Tongwei's Baoshan City polysilicon fab rolls out 1st batch of products: The second phase of Tongwei's Baoshan City high-purity polysilicon fab has produced its first batch of products. The company says that it has passed quality inspection meeting n-type electronic grade standards and a product purity of 99.999999999%. This facility, located in Yunnan Province, has a capacity of 50,000 tons in the 1st phase, with the 2nd phase adding another 200,000 tons.

Separately, Tongwei Solar announced that its high-efficiency heterojunction (HJT) module, measuring 2384 mm x 1303 mm, has achieved a maximum power of 762.79 W. The company says this achievement has been verified by TÜV SÜD. The module is said to have a maximum conversion efficiency of 24.56%. This once again refreshed the power record of heterojunction modules. Based on its proprietary HJT cells, the module adopts 0BB interconnection technology.

Tongwei Solar shipped 80.66 GW of new solar cells during 2023, including for self-use (see Tongwei Solar's 2023 Net Profit Declined 47.25 Percent).

Astronergy to build new 12 GW n-type cell & module fab: A document released by the Natural Resources and Planning Bureau of Fengyang County, Chuzhou City, Anhui Province has revealed Astronergy's plans for a new manufacturing base. The company plans to build a high-efficiency n-type solar cell and module production base in Fengyang County with 12 GW annual capacity. The 618,174 sq. m. production base will involve an investment of RMB 10 billion ($1.38 billion). Previously, Astronergy had started construction on another 8 GW solar cell production facility in Fengyang County, which has achieved partial production.

Last month, Astronergy announced that it had rolled off the 1st silicon wafer from its Thailand base (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

RenShine Solar's large-size perovskite modules reach 20.86% steady-state efficiency: Perovskite cell developer RenShine Solar has announced that its 30 cm × 40 cm size perovskite single-junction module has achieved a steady-state efficiency (MPPT) of 20.86%. The company claims that this has been certified by the National Photovoltaic Industry Measurement and Testing Center. The module, with an aperture area of 927.5 cm2, beats the company's January 2024 achievement of 20.1%. The company says that the module has completed a full set of IEC61215 stability tests.

In February, UtmoLight reported 20.7% steady-state efficiency for its perovskite solar modules (see Chinese Perovskite Manufacturer Achieves 20.7% Efficiency).

China added 23.8 GW of distributed solar and 21.93 GW of centralized solar in Q1 2024: The National Energy Administration of China has released the updated grid-connected solar PV numbers for Q1 of 2024. In the first quarter, China added 45.74 GW of new grid-connected solar capacity, a 36% increase YoY. This included 21.93 GW of centralized solar and 23.80 GW of distributed solar. By the end of March 2024, the country's cumulative solar installed capacity reached 659 GW, split into 379 GW of centralized solar and 280 GW of distributed solar. For Q1 2024, the country's solar power generation reached 161,800 GWh, up 42% YoY.

In March, NEA announced that it aims to increase the proportion of non-fossil energy to around 55% by 2024 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
