Major Chinese energy developer Beijing Energy Group has started construction on a 600 MW desert PV project at the Kubuqi Desert base in Ordos, Inner Mongolia.
The project has an AC capacity of 600 MW and a DC capacity of 721.7144 MWp, and forms part of China’s second batch of large-scale wind and solar bases in desert, Gobi, and wasteland regions.
Once completed, it is expected to generate around 900 million kWh annually and supply power to Beijing under the ‘Green Power to Beijing’ program.
Beijing Energy Group recently released the results of its 2026 PV module framework procurement announced in March, covering 4 GW, split equally between TOPCon and BC modules (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
Vertically integrated PV manufacturer Canadian Solar has announced the termination of its planned 14 GW monocrystalline wafer project.
The project had a planned investment of RMB 500 million, of which RMB 40.78 million had been deployed as of March 31, 2026. The remaining RMB 468 million will be redirected to a share repurchase program, subject to shareholder approval.
The company cited supply-demand imbalances, wafer price volatility, and weak cost pass-through as key factors behind the decision.
In a separate move, Canadian Solar said it will sell its idle PERC cell production line to an overseas buyer for $53.25 million via its controlling shareholder CSIQ, noting that the technology has been largely replaced by TOPCon.
Recently, USPTO’s PTAB cancelled Trinasolar’s TOPCon patent claims against Canadian Solar in the US (see USPTO Invalidates Trinasolar Claims Against Canadian Solar).
POWERCHINA Renewable Energy has updated its IPO prospectus, outlining plans to raise RMB 9 billion to support the development of wind and solar projects. It is a subsidiary of POWERCHINA, a major power and energy project developer.
The pipeline includes 8.46 GW of new capacity backed by a total investment of RMB 48.48 billion, comprising 3.28 GW of PV, 3.8 GW of wind, 380 MW of hybrid projects, and a 1 GW CSP-PV hybrid project.
For the first 9 months of 2025, the company reported revenue of RMB 7.82 billion. As of September 2025, its installed capacity reached 22.5 GW, including 12.23 GW of solar and 10.28 GW of wind.
Earlier this month, POWERCHINA recently completed natural gas pre-heating ignition at its 1 GW CSP-PV integrated project in Bozhou, Xinjiang (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
Inverter and energy storage manufacturer Ginlong Technologies (Solis) released its FY2025 and Q1 2026 financial results. For FY2025, it reported revenue of RMB 6.95 billion, up 6.26% year-on-year (YoY), with adjusted net profit rising 7.92% to RMB 687.6 million.
Inverter shipments totaled 790,200 units, down 13.44% YoY. The company’s production capacity stood at 1.75 million units annually, with an additional 50,000-unit expansion underway.
In Q1 2026, revenue declined 6.51% YoY to RMB 1.419 billion, while adjusted net profit fell 67.99% to RMB 49.01 million. The company attributed the decline to lower revenue and sustained R&D investment.
In October 2025, Solis reported Q3 2025 operating revenues of RMB 1.869 billion (up 3.43% YoY) and an adjusted net profit of RMB 253.43 million (down 18.42% YoY) (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
