Vertically integrated solar module manufacturer DMEGC Solar has announced the successful commissioning of its 12 GW solar cell manufacturing facility in Yibin City, Sichuan Province. In 2022, DMEGC signed an agreement with the local government to invest in a 20 GW high-efficiency cell factory, divided into 3 phases. The first and second phases, each with 6 GW capacity and a total investment of RMB 3,553.56 million ($490.06 million), have now been completed. Phase 1 was finished in October 2023, and Phase 2 has recently been put into production.
DMEGC has also announced that it was ranked 8th in the latest Wood Mackenzie list of Global Solar Module Manufacturers, up one place from last year. Wood Mackenzie pointed out that DMEGC, along with certain other PV module manufacturers, still maintains high capacity utilization and good profitability despite significant challenges.
In December 2024, DMEGC’s Infinity RT modules received TÜV Rheinland’s Bankability certification (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
China Datang Corporation, one of China’s 5 major state-owned power enterprises, has issued the "20 Measures for Solar Module Quality Control" through its subsidiary China Hydropower Material Group. These measures include standards on module technology, lifespan and warranty, 3rd party certification, auxiliary material specifications, and production process control. The company aims to implement these stricter quality measures in future procurement frameworks, ensuring the selection of high-quality and reliable products with superior services.
The China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA) has announced plans to conduct quality spot checks on solar modules, particularly those in the distributed energy market. The initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the China Electronics Standardization Institute and 3rd party quality inspection agencies.
CPIA plans to perform periodic checks in provinces with significant market scales, adhering to relevant national standards, international standards, and industry group standards. The inspection will evaluate both the safety and performance aspects of the sampled modules, taking into account the climatic conditions of the region they are deployed in and their installation methods. Special attention will be paid to key quality issues identified in outdoor and laboratory testing. CPIA states that reports summarizing the results from 3rd party inspections will be published regularly for public access.
