GCL Energy Technology (GCL ET), the energy business subsidiary of GCL Group, has partnered with Ant Digital, Alibaba’s digital technology platform, to introduce the first photovoltaic (PV) application case of the EnergyTS AI model. It is said to be specifically designed and developed based on GCL Group’s PV system characteristics and deployment methods to enhance power generation forecasting accuracy. Developed by Ant Digital, EnergyTS is a time-series AI model for energy and power applications that utilizes AI technology to precisely predict power generation, supply-demand dynamics, and other key factors. It serves as a crucial decision-making tool for PV power plant site selection, industry revenue evaluation, energy storage dispatch optimization, and asset risk management.
Recently, GCL Group, in collaboration with Peking University and NVIDIA, launched an advanced PV power forecasting model based on the NVIDIA Earth-2 platform (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
Vertically integrated solar manufacturer Trinasolar has unveiled an extreme climate solution, which integrates its weather-resistant solar PV modules with an intelligent tracking system to provide enhanced protection against severe weather conditions. The company stated that the glass thickness of its extreme weather-resistant modules has increased by 25%, with their energy impact resistance now 2.5 times higher than conventional modules of the same size. Additionally, an innovative frame design strengthens the module’s load-bearing capacity, further enhancing system stability and reliability. The solution can withstand hailstones up to 55 mm in diameter on the module surface and up to 75 mm with a 60° tilt angle protection. It also includes a short-term hail forecast system that automatically adjusts the tracker to a large-angle protection mode, minimizing hail damage. Trinasolar says the solution also lowers BOS costs and LCOE by reducing potential PV asset losses, while improving power generation returns.
Trinasolar’s National Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology has developed what it calls the ‘world's first’ industrial-standard solar PV module with a power output of over 800 W (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
Energy storage solution provider HiTHIUM Energy Storage has officially submitted its Main Board IPO application to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). According to its prospectus, the company reported revenues of RMB 3.615 billion ($498.21 million), RMB 10.202 billion ($1.41 billion), and RMB 12.917 billion ($1.78 billion) for 2022, 2023, and 2024, respectively. After recording net losses of RMB 1.777 billion ($244.85 million) in 2022 and RMB 1.975 billion ($272.00 million) in 2023, the company turned profitable in 2024 with a net income of RMB 288 million ($39.67 million).
HiTHIUM says it shipped 35.1 GWh of energy storage batteries in 2024, with an annual production capacity of over 100 GWh. Ranking 3rd globally among lithium-ion energy storage battery manufacturers, the company has 3 manufacturing bases in China. Besides, it has established a 10 GWh energy storage battery and system integration facility in Texas, which, the company claims, makes it the first Chinese energy storage enterprise to build production capacity in the US. It also operates a subsidiary in Delaware, focusing on energy storage batteries and PV-storage-charging integrated solutions.
HiTHIUM stated in its prospectus that the IPO proceeds will primarily be used to expand its energy storage battery production capacity and advance energy storage technology R&D.
TrinaStorage, the energy storage division of Trinasolar, has completed the black start and grid-forming energy storage verification tests. The test, leveraging a 10 MW microgrid platform, replicated a full-scale EMS operation for block-level power station projects. By utilizing high-conversion efficiency cells with high-temperature resistance, TrinaStorage implemented a low-cost, maintenance-free black start solution within 30 seconds. The test also validated critical technologies, including voltage and frequency support in weak grid environments, inertia support, damping control, and wide-frequency oscillation suppression. Additionally, TrinaStorage adopted a flexible battery cabin design to improve charge-discharge consistency and energy conversion efficiency. Its Elementa energy storage system has already undergone extreme environmental tests and received certifications from authoritative institutions, ensuring product stability, reliability, and safety.
Ningxia Superconducting Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd has (NSST) announced that it has independently developed high-temperature superconducting magnetron monocrystalline silicon growth equipment and technology. The company says it has passed evaluation by an expert panel led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Founded in December 2024, NSST specializes in semiconductor device manufacturing, electronic material R&D, and PV equipment production. According to the project report, the equipment incorporates high-temperature superconducting magnet technology into the monocrystalline silicon growth process, stabilizing silicon wafer oxygen content below 5 ppma and improving silicon ingot head-to-tail utilization by over 4%. Production efficiency has increased by 12%, successfully producing high-quality silicon ingots of up to 340 mm in diameter.
