Astronergy’s ASTRO N5 modules for Gurbantunggut Desert Base

Astronergy has announced that it has completed a 313 MW solar module supply for the Gurbantunggut Desert Base. This base is part of China’s wind and photovoltaic power bases, focusing on deserts, Gobi, and barren areas. With a total construction capacity of 5 GW, it includes 3.4 GW of solar photovoltaic power, 1.6 GW of wind power, and 125 MW of energy storage.

Among its solar PV projects is a 250 MW (AC) solar project in Mulei Kazakh Autonomous County, Xinjiang, developed by China Huadian, which is equipped with Astronergy’s solar modules. Astronergy says it has supplied 536,536 ASTRO N5 modules to date, which are based on its proprietary n-type TOPCon 4.0 cell technology. The project is expected to be grid-connected by the end of this year.

Earlier this month, Astronergy announced that it had received 3 GW of PV module contract awards from SPIC and China Huadian (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Arctech raises RMB 1.101B for tracker projects

Solar tracker manufacturer Arctech Solar has announced the completion of an A-share issuance to 14 specific investors, raising a total of RMB 1.101 billion ($152.42 million) (see China Solar PV News Snippets). The fundraising process began in 2022 and was approved by the Shanghai Stock Exchange in July this year. The raised funds will be used for 4 major projects: capacity expansion for parallel-drive solar tracking systems, a photovoltaic support industrial park project in Susong County of Anhui Province, the construction of a solar tracker production and demonstration base in the western region, and construction of R&D labs.

Solis wins award for scientific and technological progress

Solar inverter manufacturer Ginlong Technologies (Solis) has announced that it has received the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in Electric Power in the 2024 China Electric Power Science and Technology Awards. It received this award for its participation in the project titled Key Technology Development and Application for Large-scale Distributed Source-Load and Grid Interaction.

Solis said that the project unveils the spatiotemporal evolution mechanisms of distributed resource-grid integration under weather and environmental changes. It pioneered optimal interaction technologies and developed dual-coordination equipment for energy flow and information flow. It said further that the project has been successfully implemented in 28 provinces in China, including Shandong and Guangdong, and exported to markets in Europe, the US, and Australia.

Solis announced in September 2024 that its cumulative global shipments reached 100 GW (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

QC Solar raises RMB 186.15M

PV connector and junction box manufacturer QC Solar has announced plans to raise up to RMB 186.15 million ($25.76 million) to fund 2 key manufacturing facilities. Its components include:

  • RMB 147.98 million ($20.48 million) for a PV junction box bypass protection component production facility, which will have an annual capacity of 2.471 billion sets upon completion

  • RMB 38.18 million ($5.28 million) for a solar storage connector and wire harness production facilities, which will have an annual capacity of 5.91 million sets upon completion

Both facilities are expected to be completed in 24 months.

China allocates RMB 3.784B for renewable energy subsidies

China's Ministry of Finance has issued a notice on the advance allocation of the 2025 local budget for renewable energy tariff subsidies, totaling RMB 3.784 billion ($523.76 million). The notice mandates local finance departments to promptly allocate the subsidies to grid enterprises or public independent renewable energy power system operators. It emphasizes the priority of fully disbursing subsidies for:

  • Projects listed in the first to third batches of the national photovoltaic poverty alleviation catalog,

  • Rooftop projects with installed capacities of 50 kW or less,

  • Subsidies for projects determined through competitive bidding in 2019 and for those qualifying under the ‘revenue-based’ principle starting in 2020, covering power generation from 2022 to 2024.
