The German Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur has revealed official numbers for solar PV capacity addition in the country during March 2021 as adding up to 548.664 MW. This is a good 200 MW more than what it installed in the last month, when the initial numbers were reported to be 350.71 MW, later adjusted to 347.6 MW (see Germany Installed Over 350 MW New PV In February 2021).
It is also a significant improvement over 368.3 MW it installed in March 2020 (see Germany Installed Over 367 MW Solar In March 2020).
The March 2021 installations include 440.6 MW of solar systems installed outside of the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) – that is solar rooftop systems and 28.5 MW of ground-mounted systems up to 750 kW. As the level of the smaller than 750 kW ground-mounted systems stayed at the level of previous months, most of the growth comes from rooftop installations. According to the EEG 2021, as of April 1, rooftop systems larger than 300 kW have to participate in tenders or they get only half of their generated solar power remunerated.
While 108 MW from 45 tender-based systems was listed in the March numbers, only 2.7 MW comes from 100 onsite community solar systems on apartment buildings
Altogether, the Q1/2021 numbers for solar installations in Germany were reported by the agency as 1.325 MW, higher than 1.09 GW in Q1/2020, and 1.26 GW in Q1/2019.
The German government coalition recently deliberated that it plans to tender 6 GW solar power capacity in 2022 under its EEG 2021 (see Germany Plans To Tender 4 GW Solar PV In 2022).
