Morocco plans to build an MAD 8 billion polysilicon manufacturing plant in the Tan-Tan region
The facility targets 30,000 tons annually, with 85% of production for export markets
It was classified as a strategic project by the government and is expected to create over 3,500 direct and indirect jobs
Morocco has unveiled plans for its maiden green polysilicon manufacturing plant with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons. The country’s Ministry of Investment, Convergence and the Evaluation of Public Policies (MICEPP) has signed an investment agreement with GPM Holding for the project.
The facility will be built for an estimated investment of MAD 8 billion. It is planned to come up in the Tan-Tan region in the country’s El Ouatia Industrial Zone. Around 85% of the output will be exported to international markets.
“It will further strengthen Morocco’s leadership in renewable energy and foster the development of related industrial value chains, particularly in solar panel component manufacturing,” stated the ministry.
Additionally, the ministry, the region of Guelmim-Oued Noun, the province of Tan-Tan, and GPM Holding also entered into a cooperation protocol to support the development of a regional industrial ecosystem. It is expected to generate 1,500 direct jobs and more than 2,000 indirect jobs.
Local media reports identified GPM Holding as an American firm led by CEO Philip Jenkins, while sharing that the polysilicon project was classified as a strategic project by Morocco’s National Investment Committee in February 2024.
