  • TMEIC Corporation Americas has officially announced the operation of its Waller County factory in Texas

  • It will produce 9 GW worth of solar PV inverters initially, with plans to expand it further

  • The company sees this as the cornerstone of its US manufacturing expansion strategy

TMEIC Corporation Americas, a subsidiary of TMEIC Corporation of Japan, has commissioned a new solar PV inverter manufacturing factory in Texas, US with an annual installed capacity of 9 GW.

Located in Waller County, the factory 144,000 sq. ft. Westport factory started production operations in November 2024. TMEIC says this surpassed its initial production expectations, manufacturing more than 300 inverters by February 5, 2025.

“The opening of this factory is a cornerstone of TMEIC’s strategy to expand its U.S. manufacturing presence, allowing us to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy solutions. With our expanded production capacity, we are well-positioned to meet market demand and contribute significantly to the growth of the U.S. solar industry,” said the President and CEO of TMEIC Corporation Americas, Manmeet S. Bhatia.

The company announced the factory in August 2024, while sharing plans to relocate its headquarters to Houston, Texas from Roanoke, Virginia by March 2025. The Brookshire factory is planned to have 9 GW annual capacity with future expansions to be planned based on market demand, the company had stated back then (see Japan’s TMEIC Announces 9 GW Solar PV Inverter Fab In US).

TMEIC offers utility-scale solar inverters at various systems with up to 5.5 MW capacity at 1,500 V. It claims to be the 1st company in the US to receive UL certification for its 1,500 V utility-scale PV inverters. It also operates a power electronics factory in Katy, Texas. Japan-headquartered TMEIC is jointly owned by Toshiba and Mitsubishi Electric as 50:50 partners.

According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) of the US, as of February 2025, the country had 66 power electronics and grid technology manufacturing facilities operational, along with 7 under construction and 10 announced projects. The US now has over 50 GW of module manufacturing capacity, which SEIA believes will create sufficient demand for other components (see US Solar Module Manufacturing Capacity Exceeds 50 GW Milestone).
