  • Endurans SE EVA HT and UV films offer tailored UV blocking at 300 nm and 360 nm, respectively

  • Both encapsulants support lamination at 140–165°C with short cycle times and strong adhesion to glass and backsheet

  • The films provide >91% light transmittance, high volume resistivity, and low shrinkage for reliable module performance

The 2024/25 TaiyangNews Backsheets and Encapsulation Market Survey features product specifications from 17 companies, with 14 providing data on encapsulation materials. US-based Endurans, known for its focus on sustainability, introduced 2 new encapsulant products: Endurans SE EVA HT and Endurans SE EVA UV. The fast-cure EVA films from Endurans feature a thickness range of 200 to 800 µm and a width of 1,120 mm, extendable up to 2,200 mm. These films have a density of 0.95 to 0.96 g/cm³. The 2 encapsulants offer a tensile strength of at least 12 MPa in both MD and TD directions and an elongation of at least 500%. Shrinkage is maintained at < 3% in the MD and < 1.5% in the TD direction (see Encapsulation Sector Balancing Innovation And Cost Pressures In Solar).

They have a glass adhesion strength of over 60 N/cm and a backsheet adhesion strength of over 40N/cm. Lamination is supported at temperatures between 140 and 165°C, with a vacuum time of 2 to 6 minutes and a press time of 5 to 11 minutes. These films offer a volume resistivity of 1 × 1015 Ω cm, contain 28 ± 2% VA content, and have a gel content exceeding 75%. Both EVA variants achieve a light transmittance of over 91% in the 380 to 1,100 nm wavelength range. During the TaiyangNews Reliable PV Module Design 2024 Virtual Conference, Imco Goudswaard, Commercial Manager at Endurans Solar, shared some insights into the company’s innovative coextruded polyolefin-based backsheet and encapsulant solutions (see Endurans Solar's presentation here).

Endurans SE EVA HT features a UV cut-off at 300nm, while Endurans SE EVA UV is optimized for a UV cut-off at 360 nm. Additionally, both share a refractive index of 1.48 and exhibit a high volume resistivity of over 1 × 1015 Ω cm (see Optimizing Encapsulation For Next-Gen Solar Modules).
