LONGi Green Energy Technology has reported achieving 25.09% power conversion efficiency for its monocrystalline bifacial N-type TOPCon solar cell, which the Chinese solar company claims as a new world record.
It believes this is the 1st time when the efficiency of a TOPCon cell based on commercial size of silicon wafer has exceeded 25%. Indeed, the previous world record for commercial TOPCon efficiency was at 24.9% by JinkoSolar (see JinkoSolar: 24.9% Efficiency Record For TOPCon Solar Cell). Previously, LONGi achieved 24.06% front conversion efficiency for a monocrystalline bifacial PERC solar cell in January 2019, something it maintains to this day, it added (see LONGi 24.06% Efficiency PERC Cell World Record). As for TOPCon goes, LONGI's latest achievement's cell efficiency of 25.09% was tested by the German Institut für Solarenergieforschung (IFSH) CalTec, Hamlein.
"Improving cell conversion efficiency is the main channel for the development of photovoltaic technology," said LONGi Photovoltaics Vice President and Head of Cell R&D Center, Li Hua. The company further added that between 2012 to 2020, it has invested close to RMB 8 billion in R&D efforts and will continue to invest further.
In 2020, LONGi shipped 24.53 GW of solar modules, the highest for any company and aims to ship 40 GW in 2021 (see LONGi Shipped 24.53 GW Solar Modules In 2020).
